There's going to be a FREE combined SAT/ACT practice test hosted by Kaplan, on Saturday, March 31st from 10-2. This was rescheduled from January 20th, when the library closed due to bad weather. Remember to bring #2 pencils and a calculator with fresh batteries. Please register at the Adult Reference Desk.
The Reading Buddies registration is coming! If you like working with young children, spend a couple of hours a week reading with them. You'll make a new friend, and earn community service credit. Registration begins Monday, May 14th. Requirements: You must be 13 years old (or turning 13 by August). You need to commit to volunteer at least 5 weeks. Since there are a limited number of spots, the library will only accept applicants who live or attend school in Yorktown. There are two training sessions scheduled: Wednesday, June 6th and Monday June 18th. Both start at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Please choose one. Returning Buddies don't need to attend the training, but still have to register. You can register over the phone or in person. Call (914)245-5262, ext. 227 or 228.
The 2012 Summer Reading Club theme for older kids is "Own the Night." The club officially begins on Monday, June 25th. Read and record to earn prizes. Guess "Where in Yorktown is Bruno?" and win a gift card to Barnes and Noble.
